Mariam has extensive experience working as a Legal Counsel both in Kenya and in Somalia. She is an expert in the legal and regulatory framework governing financial institutions and has assisted Governments with legal reform, legislative drafting and capacity building activities. An area of focus at present for her is supporting the Eastern Africa region with the negotiation of complex commercial contracts in the oil, gas, mining and related infrastructure deals.

Prior to her ALSF position, Mariam was Legal Counsel at the Central Bank of Kenya where she was responsible for the development of the legal and regulatory framework governing financial institutions. She therefore brings to the team her experience in legal compliance, regulatory affairs, policy and framework development.
