Mohamed Stevens

Mohamed Stevens is a Legal Counsel at the African Legal Support Facility (the “ALSF”). He joined the ALSF in August 2019 and primarily works on energy, mining, oil, gas and sovereign finance projects. His experience spans three continents including Africa, Asia and Europe.

Prior to joining the ALSF, Mr. Stevens previously headed the Compliance Department of the Petroleum Directorate of Sierra Leone. He has also worked as a Legal Advisor of South East Asia Investigation into Social and Humanitarian Activities, a human rights NGO in Cambodia; Legal Researcher at the Office of the Prosecutor of the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda in Tanzania; Generalist Advisor at Brent Citizens Advice Bureau, London, UK; and worked in Wallace LLP a niche commercial law firm in London, UK.

Mr. Stevens holds a double Master’s degree in International Dispute Resolution and Management, and Petroleum Law and Policy from the University of Dundee - Centre of Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP). He also holds: a Post Graduate Certificate in Petroleum Management and Administration from PETRAD in Stavanger, Norway; a Post Graduate Diploma in Law from Sierra Leone Law School; a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice and a Graduate Diploma in Law from BPP Law School, London, UK; and a Bachelor of Arts in Law and Politics from the University of Greenwich, London, UK.

Mr. Stevens has authored several publications on oil and gas, investment arbitration, back channel negotiations,  sustainable development, and political risk insurance.
